Nick Bateman trained in clinical pharmacology at the RPMS Hammersmith Hospital. He then moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, establishing the RDTC and UKTIS. In 1998 he moved to Edinburgh as director of the Scottish Poisons Information Bureau (NPIS Edinburgh) where he developed and managed TOXBASE, and became honorary Professor of Clinical Toxicology.Recent publications; toxico-epidemiology, poisons information systems and the management of poisoning, most recently paracetamol overdose. He has served on a number of national advisory committees including the VPC, the ACP and the PEAG of the MHRA. He chaired the Poisons Board (Home Office) from 2012 to 2014. He served the BPS as a trustee while chairman of the BPS clinical section. He was awarded the Society’s Lilly prize in 2013.He is a past president of the European Association of Poison Centres and Clinical Toxicologists, and formerly Editor in Chief of the journal Clinical Toxicology.
